Ntv resumes broadcast after five hours
Friday, 31 October 2014
Private Ntv has resumed its transmission five hours after it went off the air following a fire at multi-storey BSEC Bhaban at Karwan Bazar where it is housed.
But the viewers are still getting 'no signal' from Rtv, the other channel located in the same building.
The fire broke out at the top floor of the 11-storey building of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) at around 10:45am Friday.
The building houses offices of about 30 organisations including the two channels and Daily Amar Desh.
After the fire started, chief news editors of Ntv and Rtv – Zahirul Alam and Anowar Haq – around noon said their channels went off the air after the power connections were cut following the fire. Ntv is housed on the sixth floor while Rtv is on the fifth floor.
Ntv has two tin-shed transmission rooms on the roof and the earth-stations of both channels are there too, according to a news agency.
