NUB attracting students for good teaching and facilities

SCARCITY of public universities, session jams, polluted student politics and the unhealthy situation in the country's educational institutions draw attention of students, guardians and authorities concerned to come forward and join the private universities.
Talking to journalists, Northern University Bangla-desh (NUB) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Shamsul Haque expressed this at the NUB main campus in the city recently.
This university is going to celebrate its fifth founding anniversary. It has successfully completed its first convocation with Chancellor and President Professor Iajuddin Ahmed as the chief guest. A total of 1,200 students confirmed their graduations in the convocation.
It includes a good number of skilled and experienced teachers, sufficient essential educational equipments, an excellent atmosphere with no student politics and all types of modern facilities that attract students and as a result, the number of students in the university is increasing day by day.
The NUB has about eight thousand students with six faculties, six departments and 20 need-based programmes including four campuses in Dhaka and two campuses in Rajshahi and Khulna each. The university attempts to conduct all possible activities related to education, research social progress and development programmes of high quality at an affordable cost. Under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the NUB has BSc in Computer Science and Engineering and BSc in Electronics and Communication Engineering departments in degree level with its Dean Prof Md Nurul Islam. It belongs to around 600 students, 15 full-time teachers, 17 part-time teachers, 150 more computers with two computers labs, arich library with a lot of text and reference books, and free-Internet facilities in the faculty.
The Faculty of Business includes 34 full-time teachers, 27 part-time teachers, updated syllabus, information-enriched library, central AC, multimedia projector with employment-oriented business related courses with its Dean Prof M Azhar Ud-din, former Pro-VC of Rajshahi University. In this context, NUB Deputy Registrar of Academic Affairs Divisions Md Faizullah Kawshik said country's renowned professionals of the banking and financial sectors and higher officials secured MBA degree from the university. NUB's Pharmacy Department started its journey with a vision to create expert pharmacists in the country with Head of the Department, Prof Monira Ahsan. The Faculty includes around 400 students, nine full-time teachers, thirteen part-time teachers and four lab facilities.
In this context, Prof Ahsan said taking into consideration the worldwide demand of pharmacists, the NUB is striving to fulfill its commitments.
The NUB includes BA in English at degree level, preliminary in master's in post graduate level, English Language and Literature and English Language Teaching course with about 1200 students and 23 full-time teachers.
Mentioning huge problems in private universities, the NUB' s arts faculty dean Prof Sadruddin Ahmed said the government should give attention to the very important sector including formation of policy for private universities, and land facilities for permanent academic building at a minimum price.
It has 123 full-time teachers in addition to 79 adjunct faculties, library with rich collections of 95,000 number of books, job placement facilities, international curriculum, state of the art computer lab, science and engineering lab, pharmacy lab and Internet facilities. These are for both teachers and students.
NUB Vice Chancellor Prof Haque said from the very beginning the university has been working with honesty and great devotion to create skilled citizens in the country. As a result, the number of students of the university has reached near about eight thousand within four years.
