Bangladesh reported eight deaths from dengue in 24 hours till Sunday morning as a record number of patients in a single day got admitted to different hospitals across the country.
As many as 2,731 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours as the dengue outbreak has taken an alarming turn, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
More than 7 times more dengue patients have been detected in the country in July this year compared to that in June, according to the DGHS.
In June, 5,056 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country while 38,429 patients got admitted till July 30, 2023, Hossain added. In the latest daily update, the total death toll from dengue hit 247 this year, the DGHS said.
It said among the hopspitalised patients, 1,184 were admitted to several hospitals in Dhaka.
A total of 49,138 dengue patients received treatment in various public and private hospitals in the country so far since January, DGHS said. Among them, 28,032 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka, it added.
In this situation, the DGHS has called upon the people to come forward as well as strengthening the mosquito control programme of the city corporations to curb the diseases.
The DGHS director (MIS) professor Dr. Md. Shahadat Hossain came up with the information at a virtual briefing on Sunday.
