Wednesday, 25 June 2014

Police have arrested the driver of Nur Hossain in Chandina Upazila of Comilla district. Nur Hossain, the main accused in Naraynganj 7-murder case, was arrested in Kolkata, the capital of India's West Bengal state, on June 15. Chandina Police Station OC Golam Morshed said that Nur Hossain's driver Jubayer Hossain Juber, was picked up from his in-law's house at Delashabar village early Wednesday. He said that locals informed them of a person from Narayanganj living in that house for quite some time now and that he never went out. That led police to raid the house. Seven men, including Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarker, were abducted from Narayanganj city's Adalatparha on April 27. Their decomposed bodies were recovered from Shitalakhyya and Dhaleswari rivers two days later. The slain councillor's relatives filed a case over the murders accusing Nur Hossain. Juber has been absconding since the case was lodged. Nur, who rose from being a transport worker to a city councillor, had set up a booming illegal sand trade on the banks of Shitalakhyya. Nazrul Islam, an Awami League leader and panel mayor of Narayanganj, was his arch-rival, according to bdnews24.com.
