Sunday, 15 June 2014

An Indian court on Sunday placed detained Bangladesh national Nur Hossain, the main accused in Narayanganj 7-murder case, on an eight-day police remand. The judge of the West Bengal court passed the order after police produced Nur Hossain before it in the morning seeking a 15-day remand. Nur Hossain was arrested by an anti-terrorism squad of West Bengal police from a Kolkata apartment on Saturday night. Hossain, accused in two cases filed with a Narayanganj court in April for abduction and killing of seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC)’s panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, fled to India a few days after the bodies of the seven abductees were found floating in Sitalakkha and Dhaleswari rivers. Nur Hossain has been made prime accused in the murder case filed by Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam. Meanwhile, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Khandaker Mahid Uddin confirmed that Nur Hossain was arrested by an anti-terrorism squad of Indian police in Kolkata around 11:30pm on Saturday (Indian Standard Time), according to a news agency.
