Nursery business brings economic solvency

BRAHMANBARIA, Nov 18: Nursery business has been a profitable venture in Brahmanbaria as the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and some other non-government organisations achieved tremendous success in motivating, giving assistance and building awareness at all levels for plantation of trees.
Nursery market is spreading in front of Red building of the Old Court area in Brahmanbaria town. A large number of youths in the district have taken the trade as their profession.
About seven hundred small and big nurseries have been set up in different areas of eight upazilas of the district where at least four thousand workers are engaged in earning their livelihood.
A large number of buyers are collecting various saplings as per their demand. People of the town setting up fruit orchard in the tub on roof of their rented house.
Every sapling is being sold at Tk 4.00 to Tk 25.00 according to saplings quality. A nursery trader told the Financial Express that he used to sell eight hundred to one thousand saplings daily and earned a net profit of around Tk 15000.00 to Tk 20000 per month.
