CHATTOGRAM, Oct 3: The staff nurses of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went on work abstention and staged a demonstration at the hospital on Wednesday protesting alleged assault on one of their fellows by a physician.
The agitating nurses continued their demonstration from 8.30 am to 12.00 pm and called off the programme as the hospital authorities assured them of taking action against the accused physician.
Tapan Dey, general secretary of the Diploma Nurses Association, CMCH, said Dr Shaheda Akhtar of the Gynaecology Department gave nurse Banani Rani a slap when the latter was cleaning the urine bag of a newborn baby around 8.00 am on Wednesday.
All nurses went on the strike protesting misbehaviour of the physician with Banani Rani, he added.
On the other hand, Dr Shaheda denied slapping Banani and said she only struck Banani mildly on the back.
Tapan said they will submit a written complaint against the physician.
He said they staged demonstration but did not stop services to the patients.
If the authorities do not take action against the accused physician, they will continue their agitation, Tapan Dey warned.
