Sunday, 23 March 2014

Jim Bolger, a special envoy to New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, has sought Bangladesh’s support for his country’s candidature in the election to non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in 2015-2016. Bolger, who arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit, formally came up with the request when he met Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at his office on Sunday. During the meeting, they also discussed various issues relating to the existing relations between New Zealand and Bangladesh and matters of mutual interests, a Foreign Ministry release said. Bolger is expected to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque during his stay here, and will discuss issues related to trades between the two countries. New Zealand is a candidate for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in 2015-2016. The UN Security Council consists of 15 members – five permanent and 10 non-permanent members, according to UNB.
