N’ganj-5 by-polls: Candidates get symbols

The Returning Officer on Tuesday distributed election symbols to the four candidates contesting the Narayanganj-5 by-polls slated for June 26. RO Mihir Sarwar Morshed allotted the symbols among the candidates at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office in the morning. Jatiya Party-backed candidate AKM Salim Osman has been allocated ‘plough’ as election symbol while former MP and Nagarik Oikya adviser SM Akram ‘pineapple’, Krishak Sramik Janata League district unit president Shafiqul Islam Delwar ‘kerchief’ and independent candidate Mamun Sirajul Majid was given ‘shrimp’. The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasim Osman, Salim Osman’s brother, who died on April 30, according to UNB.
