N’ganj abductions spark protests

Supporters of abducted Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway for two and a half hours on Tuesday, demanding the immediate rescue of Nazrul and his four associates. Lawyers in Narayanganj, meanwhile, demonstrated and boycotted the court here for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to push for the immediate rescue of abducted lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. Seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and the lawyer, abducted form the city on Sunday, could not be traced till Tuesday afternoon. The agitated supporters of the ward councilor put barricades at 10 am and burned tyres at 10 spots from Mouchak to Sanarpar at Siddhirganj, disrupting traffic on the busy highway. They also demanded the immediate arrest of councilor Nur Hossain and Siddirganj thana Awami league general secretary Yasin Miah for their suspected involvement in the abduction, according to UNB.
