Obaidul Hoque joins as MD of Bangladesh Commerce Bank

Md. Obaidul Hoque has joined as managing director and CEO of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited.
Prior to this appointment, he served as a member of the board of directors of Janata Bank, where he was also a member of the executive committee. Earlier, he held the position of principal at the NRBC Bank Training Institute, according to a press release.
Mr Hoque, born on October 23, 1963, in Bhola, holds a Master of Commerce (M.Com) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in marketing from the University of Dhaka.
He obtained his DAIBB (Banking Diploma) from the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh in 1991, where he also served as an examiner. With over three decades of professional experience, Hoque has built a distinguished career, primarily with Bangladesh Bank. During his tenure, he held several key positions across multiple departments, ultimately serving as executive director.
In this role, he led the SME & Special Programmes Department and acted as project director of the Second Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Development Project (SMEDP-2).
Earlier in his career, he contributed to critical areas including on-site banking supervision, currency management, administration, and foreign exchange policy and inspection.
He also served as head of the Khulna office of Bangladesh Bank and held positions such as general manager, deputy general manager, joint director, deputy director, and assistant director.
