OC among 7 hurt in cop-kidnappers \\\'shootout\\\'

Seven people, including four police men, were injured in scuffle with a gang of kidnappers and mob beating following a ‘shootout’ between the law enforcers and suspected kidnappers in Jessore Sadar Upazila early Friday. Police rescued a captive abducted by the gangsters and recovered firearms and bullets from the spot, said Ariful Islam, additional police super of Jessore. He said the ‘gun battle’ ensued when a team of police asked a car, used by the kidnappers, to stop. As the kidnappers ignored police signal, the law enforcers chased the car and later made it to stop in Churamankhati Bazar in the outskirts of Jessore town. Suddenly, the kidnappers swooped on the police team, leaving four lawmen injured. The miscreants then opened fire on the local people, who caught some of the criminals and beat them up, leaving three gangsters injured, he added. The injured police officers, including Jessore Kotwali Model police station’s officer-in-charge Akkas Ali, received treatment from a local hospital. Two other injured cops – constables of the police station – were released from the hospital after receiving first aid, according to a news agency.
