OCC, DNA lab inaugurated in BSMCH

BARISAL, Dec 27 (UNB): A One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) and DNA test and screening laboratory were opened in Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH) Wednesday for providing better health care facilities.
Adviser for Women and Children Affairs Geeteara Safiya Chowdhury inaugurated the centre and lab with Director of SBMCH Dr Maniruzaman in chair.
The adviser said six OCC in six divisional medical college hospitals and five DNA screening labs under National Forensic DNA Profiling Laboratory of DMCH are functioning in the country.
Through these centres victims will get treatment, medico-legal examination, legal aid, counseling, shelter and rehabilitation facilities.
Dr M Mustafa, coordinator of SBMCH OCC said the eight-bed OCC informally had started functioning in SBMCH since July 2, 2006 and served 197 victims until December 23, 2007.
