FE Report
The Orient Express Lines (OEL), the feeder vessel operator, will deploy a new vessel in Chittagong-Singapore route raising their total operating vessels to eight.
The new vessel christened OEL Singapore is expected to sail on its maiden voyage to Bangladesh on July 23.
The OEL, which bagged ship operators award at the 2006 Lloyds List Middle East, hinted that the new entrant to the fleet might reach at outer anchorage of Chittagong port on July 27 with around 900 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs).
The brand new vessel is expected to be delivered from ST Marine ship yard in Singapore on 22nd July 2007.
The OEL is a fully owned company of the Transworld Group of Dubai.
This new ship will ply services on Chittagong, Singapore and Tanjun Pelapas/Malaysia route.
When contacted, Nelum Attanayake, the owner's representative told that this brand new vessel deployment is as per the commitment made by OEL Managing Director, S Mahesh during his visit to Bangladesh during 2006 and considering the improved Chittagong port situation, where OEL can provide a high class service to Bangladesh trade and to all OEL customers.
The vessel can do 19.5 knots and will take only 3 days to transfer the cargo from Chittagong to Singapore.
This is the first time by a foreign company to deploy brand new ship in Bangladesh.
The OEL officials said it will add few more vessels to their existing services to Bangladesh.
