Office-goers suffer much as metro rail halted for 2 hrs

FE REPORT | Monday, 1 April 2024

Office-goers suffered much to avail metro rail in the capital on Sunday as its operation remained suspended for nearly two hours following a nor'wester that fell some materials on the catenary system.
Officials said the first few trains could not be operated as the seasonal storm swept the capital just before the trial train operation.
Hundreds of passengers of mass rapid transit (MRT) line waited at Uttara North as the first few trains could not be operated from 7:10am.
Two trains from both sides of the MRT-6 line run through the entire 20.1 kilometre to check entire corridor before the MRT operation started.
However, sources said resumption of the train operation took time due to lack of manpower as technical and mechanical support teams were not available at that time in the station areas.
Public Relations Officer Tarafder Mahmudur Rahman, however, said the MRT operation remained suspended for an hour from the starting time due to the incompletion of the shooting trail of the train for the storm.
Since launching the MRT 6, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited has been facing various technical problems, keeping its operation halted for half an hour to several hours.
