OIC bourses to open channels for int'l cooperation

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) president Fakhor Uddin Ali Ahmed said OIC member stock exchanges should play a pivotal role to ensure a focused platform and communication channel for representatives of the relevant OIC organizations and institutions to explore international cooperation and opportunity.
He made the comments while addressing the Third Working Committee Meeting of OIC Members States' Stock Exchanges Forum held at Abu Dhabi Thursday.
CSE is one of the Working Committee members of the Forum.
OIC Member States' Stock Exchanges Forum is a body formed in 2005 and having current membership of 34 stock exchanges of OIC Member States.
The countries are Jordan, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Beirut, Algeria, Malaysia, Morocco, Bangladesh (CSE & DSE), Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Sudan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Mozambique, Oman, Nigeria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Albania, Uzbekistan, Tunisia and Uganda.
CSE President said that the forum should focus on the efforts to initiate the groundwork to harmonize the rules and regulations governing market operations, as well as to open channels.
He further said that deepening relations and business links among the OIC member states, with well-designed and implemented strategic policies, will help increase the amount of international portfolio investments flowing to Bangladesh stock market.
CSE President while saying on investment opportunities of Bangladesh said that Bangladesh offers an unparalleled investment climate compared to the other South Asian economies.
Bangladesh is a largely homogeneous society with no major internal or external tensions and a population with great resilience in the face of adversity.
The geographic location of the country is ideal for global trade, with very convenient access to international sea and air routes.
Professor Dr. M A Mamun, Chief Executive Officer of CSE was also present in the meeting.
