OIC secy gen arrives in the afternoon

Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, arrives in Dhaka this (Saturday) afternoon on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh. The visit aims to strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and OIC - the 2nd largest international organisation that groups together 57 Muslim-majority countries spreading over four continents. Madani took office as the tenth Secretary General of the OIC on January 1, 2014. He was born to a well-known family in Makkah Al Mukarramah on April 26, 1946. This is going to be Madani's 2nd visit to Bangladesh as he came here on a four-day visit on March 8 last year, Foreign Ministry officials said. He is likely to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discuss about the latest situation of Islamic world. The OIC secretary general will hold meetings with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque at their offices during his visit. The issues of the Muslim world, including peace, security and development, might come up for discussion. The current situation of Yemen, Syria, Male, Houthi militia attacks, suicidal attacks in different Muslim countries, recent bomb attacks in Saudi Arabia are also likely to come up for discussion, according to a news agency.
