OIC Secy Gen lauds socioeconomic progress of BD

Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani has appreciated the socioeconomic development achieved by Bangladesh, particularly in empowerment of women, report agencies.
He pledged all-out support for further enhancing the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and OIC in various fields.
The assurance came when Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali held a meeting with him at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah on Tuesday, according to e message received in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The OCI chief paid tributes to Bangladesh for her constructive role in OIC endeavours for peace and development in the Muslim world.
The OIC Secretary General and the minister also exchanged views on various developments in regional and international arenas.
Mr Ali briefed the Secretary General on Bangladesh's pivotal role in forging a greater cooperation at the regional and sub-regional level, particularly under Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and The Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Forum for Regional Cooperation (BCIM) processes.
The minister is in Jeddah to attend the 41st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) being held there (June 18-19).
He is leading the Bangladesh delegation which also includes Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium Ismat Jahan; Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia M Shahidul Islam; Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico M Fazlul Karim, Director General (International Organisations) of Foreign Ministry Tarik Ahsan and other high officials.
