FE Report | Wednesday, 17 October 2018
Jatiya Oikya Front on Tuesday decided to hold a big rally in Sylhet on October 23 as part of its series of programmes before the general elections.
After formation of the new political alliance on Saturday, this will be the first rally of the coalition aimed at building a "democratic welfare state through participatory election."
Apart from such programmes, the front leaders also formed a liaison committee at a meeting of the platform. The meeting was held at the Uttara residence of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rab.
After the meeting, ASM Abdur Rab told reporters that they chalked out a series of countrywide programmes starting from October 23 in Sylhet.
Talking about the programme, he said they would offer doa at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal before holding the public rally.
"You'll be updated in detail about the programme today (Wednesday)," he said.
After that, the front leaders will visit Chattogram, Rajshahi and other divisions and districts in the next course of actions, according to the JSD president.
Expecting the government cooperation for allowing them to exercise their democratic rights, he said the front was formed to restore democracy and people's rights.
"People want to know about us. I hope the government and the administration will not create any obstacles," he said. A liaison committee was formed and their names would be announced on Wednesday (today).
When contacted, Nagorik Oikya chief coordinator Shahidullah Kaiser said they would sit again today to discuss future programmes and ways to expand the coalition involving more parties.
"I don't want to disclose names of the parties now. One thing I can say right now is some parties have shown interest," he added.
The meeting started from 12:00noon and continued until 3:00pm.
BNP secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, JSD general-secretary Abdul Malek Ratan, JSD vice-president Tania Rab, Zafrullah Chowdhury of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and former Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) vice-president Sultan Mohammad Mansur, among others, were present at the meeting.
