Oil tanker catches fire at Tangail filling station

A tank lorry (oil tanker) caught fire at a filling station in Basail Upazila in Tangail district on Tuesday morning. Fire service sources said the oil tanker caught fire in front of Nahian Filling Station at Baoikhola on Dhaka-Tangail Highway around 8:00am. Being informed, three firefighting units from Mirzapur and Tangail Sadar Upazilas and Kaliakoir Upazila of Gazipur rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after 2-and-half-hour’s hectic efforts. However, no casualties were reported. Meanwhile, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway remained halted for about three hours due to the incident. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately. Traffic on the highway, however, resumed at about 11:00am following police intervention, according to a news agency.
