Oil tanker explodes into big blaze at city petrol pump
FE Report | Monday, 24 November 2014
An oil tanker exploded into a blaze with a big bang at a fuel station in Dhaka's Tejgaon industrial area on Sunday night, sending people in panic.
Firefighters said the fire erupted while the tanker was releasing fuel at Sotota Petrol Pump and Filing Station at Satrasta at about 6:55pm, and it couldn't be completely doused when the report came.
"We're trying hard to douse the flame so that it cannot reach out towards the petrol pump," said officer-in-charge of Tejgaon fire office Tanharul Islam.
He said it would not be possible to ascertain the reason before an investigation was conducted. The extent of loss caused by the fire could not be known immediately.
On information, firefighters from eight fire units rushed in and engaged in fire-drenching activities.
However, the firemen couldn't douse the fire completely till the time of filing the report at 8:30pm, although they managed to bring the blaze under control.
Power was disconnected in a part of the industrial area soon after the fire to avert any further trouble.
Vehicular movements were also suspended on Mohakhali-Maghbazar road via Satrasta for smooth movement of fire-dousing vehicles and firemen.
