Old man murdered for land

An old man was chopped to death and three other people were injured in a clash between two rival groups for a piece of land at Malahar village in Mohadevpur Upazila in Naogaon on Thursday. The dead is Mokbul Hossain, 65, son of Naser Ali of the village. One Abbas Ali, 55, a resident of the village – was arrested for the murder. Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Mokbul and his neighbour Azizul over ownership of a piece of land at the village. In sequel to the conflict, supporters of Azizul attacked Mokbul’s men triggering a bloody clash. The two groups used lethal weapons in the clash, leaving Mokbul dead on the spot and three others injured, according to a news agency.
