Oli smells foul play behind his wealth info seeking

Friday, 26 September 2014

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col (rtd) Oli Ahmed has said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) might have sought his wealth statement as he had turned down a government proposal to be a cabinet member. ‘I came here to give information about my wealth as the ACC has served a notice to me seeking my asset account… I’ve to come here maybe for my refusal to be a minister of the current regime,’ he told reporters at the ACC headquarters at Dhaka’s Segunbagicha. Oli submitted his wealth statement to ACC Secretary Maksudul Hasan on Thursday afternoon. On Sept 10, ACC Deputy Director Golam Faruk served a notice to Oli, seeking info about his movable and immovable property. The commission in its primary investigation found that the LDP chief amassed a big property illegally, an ACC official said. Oli, however, claimed that he has no illegal earning as he pays tax every year. ‘I don’t believe in illegal (haram) income,’ the former minister said, according to a news agency.
