Oman emerge group champions

Oman emerged the Group A champions in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers with a all-win record beating Qatar by 3-1 goals at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
Favourite Oman top the group securing full nine points from three matches after beating Chinese Taipei 1-0 and Sri Lanka 3-2 in previous group engagements while Qatar remained at bottom in the four-team group with one point after making 1-1 draw against Sri Lanka on the opening day (Saturday).
On completion of Group A matches, Sri Lanka finished group A runners-up with four points while Chinese Taipei was placed third with three points.
In the day's 2nd match, Oman took the lead in the 14th minute as forward Ali Nofli Younis Ghabish found the target with a fierce hit from the edge of the box from a goalmouth melee (1-0).
Ali Sheraz neutralised the margin for Qatar in the 23rd minute with an upward push (1-1).
Oman continued to display superb performance in the meet scoring two more goals, one in either half. Bait SM Ashoor scored a field goal in the 35th minute (2-1) while Bait Awad M Abdullah sealed the fate of the match scoring a goal in the 70th minute (3-1).
