On fake freedom fighters
Sunday, 28 September 2014
We congratulate the government, particularly State Minister for Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, for their tough actions against the fake freedom-fighters. In the case of a sensitive issue like the glorious war of liberation, we do not want to see anything fake prevailing there. The nation adores the freedom-fighters and hold them in high esteem. If the fake freedom-fighters reign there, it will be unfortunate for the nation that they have to adore the fake people. It appears that the government wants to clean the freedom-fighters' list by wiping out the fake ones; many certificates issued to the fake freedom-fighters have already been cancelled. It is learnt that the top bureaucrats are putting pressure on the government to be lenient on them. The withholding of certificate issued to a top bureaucrat raises question if the government was playing a double standard. Apart from the government service category, fake freedom-fighters in large number exist in all areas. Following the government announcement of various benefits to the freedom-fighters, there has been an exponential growth of freedom fighters. People in large number have been claiming to have fought the liberation war. And in this backdrop, a particular class of middlemen has emerged in the country-particularly in the rural areas. Some are trying to get a certificate by fraudulent means, while the local 'Muktijoddha Sangsad' and the local administration are conniving with them in exchange of money. Thus in the rural areas, too, there exist many fake freedom-fighters. We urge the government to hit hard there too.
