On \\\'Letters to Editor\\\'
Wednesday, 1 October 2014
For regular and serious newspaper readers, this column is very interesting and diverse in nature. It carries interesting and varied opinions and views from all across the country. It is also a genuine and very effective outlet for readers to take up various matters that are of general interest for most citizens particularly senior citizens with time on their hands.
I would therefore appeal to the editors of all dailies, including the weeklies that carry this column, to see if it is possible to spare more column-inch space for 'Letters to Editor', 'Opinion' or 'Feedback' in their newspapers. I am sure, such a move, even by curtailing some international news items that do not concern us directly or even indirectly, will make the dailies and weeklies more attractive for local readers.
Quite often, some interested readers bring up matters or issues that normally we miss out and very often their views and comments are quite relevant and interesting. In my opinion, the space can be increased, to say, to quarter page daily or at least on alternate days and at least half a page on weekend and holidays to begin with. This may be tried out for at least three months and I am sure this will increase the readership and circulation of the newspapers. It may also help the authorities to pick up certain issues that may directly or indirectly be matters of public interest.
