One container-load of liquor seized at Ctg port

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 05: A total of 11,676 litres of foreign liquor of different brands were seized at the Chittagong port on Wednesday night on a tip-off.
The foreign liquor was imported in a 20-foot long container. Revenue to the tune of Tk 120 million (12 crore) was attempted to be evaded through this shipment.
The Supreme Smart Wire Limited, Adamji EPZ, Narayanganj, brought the consignment on fake declaration. The C&F agent Hafez Trading of Chattogram was in charge of clearing the shipment.
Concerned officials at the Chattogram Customs House said that through risk management, the Audit Investigation and Research (AIR) team of the Customs House seized the container of liquor at the NCT yard of Chittagong Port on Wednesday night. A total of 1,114 cartons of liquor of different brands were found in the container.
Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House Mohammad Saidul Islam said that the process of taking legal action against the persons who brought the consignment on fake declaration was ongoing.
