One day Tigers will play quarterfinals

Wednesday, 23 March 2011

Needless to say, "Virtue thrives best in adversity." It means suffering is the test of virtue. While there is life, there is hope, too. Someday, the Tigers will play in the quarterfinals of the Cricket World Cup! Among the 10 test-playing nations, only two nations were unable to reach the quarterfinals. They are Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Look at the history of the 10 test playing nations. England and Australia earned the status in 1877, South Africa in 1889, West Indies in 1928, New Zealand in 1930, India in 1932, Pakistan in 1952, Sri Lanka in 1982, Zimbabwe in 1992 and Bangladesh in 2002. Rome was not built in a day. Worthwhile achievements need time, struggle and perseverance. Bangladesh has just kicked off as the youngest Test-playing nation. In Cricket World Cup 2011, the greatest achievement of Bangladesh is that at least the Tigers were able to defeat England, Ireland and Netherlands and earned six points. The past is our heritage, the present is our responsibility and the future is our challenge. We need to evaluate our mistakes, find the best alternatives and follow up to assure that the solution is effective. Our batsmen are not always productive, our bowlers sometime give opportunity to the opponents to go for a big score and our fielders need to be more dynamic. As a result, we fail to become a balanced team and show our worth. We need to improve the Tigers' performance through day to day basis practice and cricket matches among the nations. Good luck to the Tigers in future encounters! Iftu Ahmed Aurora, IL, USA E-mail : iftuahmed@sbcglobal.net
