One dies in Sylhet clash

A worker has been killed in a clash with Ansar personnel over illegal stone quarrying in Sylhet, police say. The skirmish took place on Thursday midnight in the Bholaganj reserved area. Police have identified the victim as Zohur Ahmed, 40, a man from Companyganj Upazila’s Bholaganj locality. Locals said a local quarry racket had been extracting stones from the Bholaganj reserved area for a long time. On Thursday night, several workers went there to collect stones, ignoring an administrative ban, when they were stopped by Ansar personnel on duty. The marauding workers swooped on Ansar members threw stones at them and beat them up with their tools, triggering a clash. SI Hoque said Zohur Ahmed was critically injured in Ansar firing. He was taken to the Sylhet's MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, according to a news agency, according to a news agency.
