One gets 45-year RI for murdering a girl

RAJSHAHI, Aug 23 (BSS): One person was sentenced to 45 years rigorous imprisonment for raping and murdering a schoolgirl about five years ago.
Judge of the Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Child Repression Muhammad Sirajul Islam delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom Wednesday.
The convict was identified as Aminul Haque, of Borgachhi village under Godagari Upazila of the district.
The court also fined the convict Taka 70,000 and directed the deputy collector to collect the money by selling his property.
Three other accused in the case were acquitted from the case as charges against them could not be proved.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convict Aminul Haque kidnapped the daughter of one of his neighbours, Fatema Khatun, from her house and killed her after raping on July 16 in 2002.
Victim's brother Mahtab Ali had lodged a case with Godagari police station accusing four persons. Police submitted chargesheet against them.
After examining 14 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.
Special Public Prosecutors Mokbul Hossain Ranju and Mahbubul Islam appeared in the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Abdul Wahab defended the accused.
