One gets life term for killing in Gazipur

GAZIPUR, Aug 11 (UNB): A court here on Sunday afternoon convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 1996.
The convict was identified as Akhil Chandra Sarkar, son of late Yogesh Chandra Sarkar of Banarhaula village in Kapasia upazila.
The court also fined the lifer Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer two months' more in jail.
According to the prosecution, Gias Uddin Sarkar, a resident of Banarhaula village in Kapasia upazila, was killed over a land-related dispute on July 12, 1996.
Gias's son Mahfujul Haque Delwar Hossain filed a murder case against 10 people.
Police submitted charge sheet against three people on November 28, 1998 dropping the names of seven others upon objection from the accused's side.
After examining the records and witnesses, Justice Monir Kamal of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court-1 handed down the verdict.
