One gets life term for killing step-mother

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Feb 15 (BSS): A court here today sentenced one person to imprisonment for life for killing his step-mother at Jamadarpara under Sadar upazila on May 27, 2013.
The court also fined him Taka 20,000 in default to suffer rigorous imprisonment for six months more.
District and session judge Kabita Khanam pronounced the judgment in the crowded courtroom.
The convicted person is Suruj Ali, 22, son of Shah Alam of Jamadarpara under Baroghoria union of Sadar upazila.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Suruj hit his step-mother Minara Begum, 38, with a cricket stamp following a quarrel, leaving her dead on the spot.
Sayeda Khatun, daughter of the victim, filed a murder case with Sadar Thana next day.
Police, after investigation the case, submitted charge sheet before the court against the convicted persons on July 3, 2013.
Later, the Judge, after examining the witnesses and evidence, found him guilty and handed down the punishment.
