One gets nine yrs' RI for hoarding fertiliser

BARISAL, Jun 27 (UNB): A court here Tuesday convicted a man and awarded him nine years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for hoarding fertiliser illegally.
The court also fined Niranjan Sarkar, a fertiliser dealer of Batajore Bazar of Gournadi Upazila, Tk 1000, in default, to suffer more two months' RI.
According to the prosecution, a police team raided a pulse crushing mill of Batajore Bazar used as a godown of Niranjan Sarkar on January 20, 2007.
Police recovered 350 sacks of fertiliser from the godown and arrested him after he failed to show necessary documents in favour of hoarding the fertiliser. A case was filed.
Siddikul Arefin Chowdhury, judge of the second special tribunal of Barisal, handed down the verdict after examining eight witnesses and records.
