One held with 34 gold bars in Joypurhat

Detectives arrested a man along with 34 gold bars weighing 2.6 kg from Nishinta Bazar of Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat on Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Ehsanul Haque of Atpara Wapda area of Bogra district.
Tipped off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police intercepted a private car coming from Bogra in Nishinta Bazar area around 12:45pm and recovered the gold worth Tk 17.5 million (1.75 crore) after searching the vehicle, said officer-in-charge of the police station concerned Mahfuzur Rahman.
Later, the DB team arrested Ehsanul Haque from the spot on charge of smuggling gold.
The plainclothes police suspected that the gold was being transported to Hili port for smuggling to India.
