One killed, 16 hurt as 2 groups clash in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Feb 13 (UNB): A man was killed and at least 16 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in Satkania Upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Saber Hossain, 30, son of Jebar Muluk of Khagaria Chagarchar village.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkania Police Station Khalid Hossain said there had been a longstanding dispute between two local groups- one led by Badsha and the other by Musa Sawdagar-at Khagaria Chagarchar village.
As a sequel to the rivalry, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons engaged in a clash around 6:30am Friday when a chase and counter-chase took place.
Some 7-8 houses were also vandalised and five others torched during the two-hour long melee that left 16 people injured.
The injured were whisked off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where Saber succumbed to his injuries later.
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to fend off further trouble.
