One killed, 50 injured in Sirajganj clash

SIRAJGANJ, Aug 30 (UNB): A youth was killed and 50 people, including seven women, were injured in a clash between two groups of residents of Boylarchar village in Royganj Upazila Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tariqul Islam (22), son of Sakhawat Hossain of the village.
Police said there had been a longstanding conflict between Hamid and Samadul of the village over a piece of land.
The clash ensued at about 10:30 am when supporters of Samadul tried to resist the men of Hamid from capturing the land.
Both the groups equipped with lethal weapons and sticks attacked each other, leaving Tariqul of Hamid group dead on the spot and injuring 50 others.
The feuding groups also ransacked three houses and set ablaze a house during the hour-long clash.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
They recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals and clinics in Sirajganj and Bogra districts where the condition of four was 'stated to be critical'.
A case was filed with the local police station.
