One killed as nor\\\'wester hits Netrakona villages

NETRAKONA, May 23 (BSS): An octogenarian woman was killed and more than 12 persons were injured when a nor'wester hit 25 villages under three unions of Netrakona Sadar upazila last midnight.
The three storm-hit unions are Kaliara-Gabragathi, Mougathi and Medni.
According to preliminary reports received from the storm-hit areas, the nor-wester with a speed of 90 to 100 kilometres per hour lasted about twenty minutes levelling several thousands of kutcha houses to the ground and uprooting many trees and electric poles in the areas.
The storm also caused deaths of cattleheads and poultry-birds in the rural areas.
The dead was identified as Ukilernesa, 80, wife of late Riazuddin of village Bashati under Netrakona Sadar upazila. She died on the spot when the house collapsed on her during the storm.
Meanwhile, district administration has allocated ten metric tons of rice for the storm-hit people of the areas on emergency basis, Deputy Commissioner Tarun Kanti told the news agency.
