One killed as two groups clash in Habiganj

HABIGANJ, Sept 26: A man was killed and 40 others injured in a clash over occupying a water body in Monduri village under Baniachang upazila of Habiganj on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jonab Ali, 40, a resident of the village.
Nirmalendu Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Baniachang Police Station, said there had been a longstanding dispute between former chairman of Monduri union Shamsul Huda and Mahtab Khan of the village over ownership of the water body.
The clash ensued around 9am on Saturday when the followers of the two groups went to the water body for catching fish.
Both the groups, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other that left Jonab, a follower of Shamsul, dead on the spot and 40 people from both sides injured.
On information, police recovered the body. The injured were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.—UNB
