One killed, eight injured in gas line blast in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 09: One person died and eight others received serious burns in a gas line blast at Morium Bhaban at Uttar Kattoli in the port city on Sunday night.
Of the victims, an elderly woman died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday while others have been in critical condition.
The victims are identified as Mijanur Rahman (42), Saiful Islam (25), Sultana Bibi (36), Sumaiya Begum (18), Manha (2), Maher (8), Reaj (22), Jahan (21) and Peara Begum (65).
Dr Rafique Uddin Ahamed, the chief of burn unit of CMCH said, "Nine persons were admitted to CMCH on Sunday night with critical burn injuries. Peara Begum died at the hospital this noon (Monday). We sent six critically injured patients to Dhaka for better treatment. The remaining two are now receiving treatment at CMCH."
Locals said that the gas line of Morium Bhaban was blasted at around 10 pm on Sunday night. Seven were members of the same family while rest two are other family members. Locals took them to CMCH.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Mohammed Ilias Hossain visited the spot on Monday. The district administration has formed a five-member investigation committee led by the additional district magistrate.
