One killed in Chittagong fire

One person was killed in a fire early on Wednesday in a colony in the port city. Locals alleged that the fire was deliberately started at the 'Nahar Manjil' colony in the Akbar Shah area. The Fire Service have filed a complaint with the police alleging sabotage. Police have detained one person in this connection on Wednesday morning. Chittagong Metropolitan police's Additional Commissioner (West) MM Tanvir Arafat said that the fire broke out around 3am at the colony owned by one Shamsul Alam Bhuiyan. The dead, Mahmud Rubel, 25, was an inhabitant of the colony. His body was recovered from a gutted house around 8am, about three hours after the fire was put out. AC Arafat said that locals suspect the fire was an act of sabotage. One Ahmed Nabi, also a dweller of the colony, has been detained in connection with the fire, he added, according to a news agency.
