One killed in city gunfight with RAB

Monday, 23 March 2015

An accused in a murder case was killed in a 'gunfight' with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at a slum of TT Para in the city's Shahjahanpur area early on Sunday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mobarok Ullah Monti, 44.
Rab-3 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Khandakar Golam Sarwar said on a tip-off a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area to arrest Monti at about 3:00 am.
Sensing the presence of the Rab members, Monti and his associates opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Monti was caught in the line of fire and injured while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The elite force recovered one foreign-made pistol, one magazine and two bullets from the scene.
Monti was wanted in several cases, including the murder of Sumi Akter. Seven parts of her dismembered body were found in the city's Motijheel area on March 10, Lt Col Sarwar added.
