One killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX'S BAZAR, Oct 04: A suspected robber was killed and four cops were injured in a gunfight between a gang of dacoits and policemen at South Rumaliachhara in Cox's Bazaar on Saturday. After being informed that a gang of criminals looted the house of one Sirajul Islam after shooting and injuring a young woman identified as Rokshana (17), police rushed to the scene around 3 am, police and local sources said. Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire on them and in retaliation they instantly fired back triggering a brief gunfight, in which alleged robber Monir Mia and four policemen were injured, the sources said. Monir was later declared dead immediately after admission to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. — UNB
