One more IS suspect held in Dhaka

Detectives claim to have arrested one more suspected member of the Middle East-based militant organisation, Islamic State (IS), from Dhaka city. Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Md Hafizur Rahman in Purana Paltan area on Thursday night. He was suspected to have IS ‘connections’, Rahman said. The media will be briefed on Friday afternoon at the DMP office, he added. On Wednesday night, police arrested two other men – Asif Adnan and Fazle Elahi Tanzil – on charge of trying to go to the Middle East to receive training under Syria-based al-Nusra Front, also known as al-Nusra brigade, a jihadist organisation fighting in Syria’s opposition and is widely believed to have links to al-Qaeda in Iraq. Adnan, 26, son of a retired judge and Tanzil, 24, son of a serving joint secretary, were picked up from Segunbagicha and Eskaton areas respectively, according to private TV channels.
