One more patient dies of swine flu

One more patient died of swine flu, the IEDCR director said Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.
A three-year old child died Thursday last at the ICDDR,B pushing the official death counts from the deadly H1N1 virus to two, and unofficial estimates to three.
Thirty-six more cases were detected after Thursday, taking the total tally to 311.
"According to our estimate two patients died of swine flu. Though it was not possible to examine the dead, Sagar, who died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Friday night whether he was affected by swine flu he had all the symptoms of the virus," Mahmudur Rahman said.
Abdus Sobhan Sagar, aged 20, died after being admitted to the swine flu ward with high fever and respiratory problems, the tell-tale symptoms of the potentially deadly flu.
Declining to disclose the name of the child, Mahmudur Rahman, the director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), said: "It is better not to disclose the names of the affected people or dead. The family will have to face many troubles during the formalities like Namaj-e-janaza and burial."
The first H1N1 victim, 35-year old Mitali Chakrabarti, died in the Lab Aid Hospital on August 30.
As many as 16 observation teams of IEDCR are working for collecting samples in Dhaka and outside Dhaka, Dr Rahman said.
Except the government-run pharmaceutical company Essential Drug Company Limited, four more private companies were allowed to produce Oseltamivi capsule, a drug to combat the virus, he added.
The companies are Popular, Beximco, Square and SKF.
The hospitals of the capital informed the IEDCR control room about the swine flu patients through SMS, the IEDCR director said.
