One shot dead in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR, Jun 3 (UNB): A man was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Katakhali area in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Khokon, second-in-command of Didar Bahini, a notorious gang, and son of late Ali Ahmed of Titarkandi village in the same upazila.
Laxmipour Sadar police station SI M Zillur Rahman said a group of miscreants swoopped on Khokon at Katakhali area around 1:30am and opened fire, leaving him critically injured.
On information, police rescued Khokon and took him to the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, he said.
Khokon was a listed criminal, and was accused in various charged, including murder, he added.
However, local people alleged that Khokon died after he was hit by a bullet during a police drive at Katakhali area.
Police fired bullets at Khokon as he tried to escape his arrest during a drive at the early hours on Tuesday, claimed the local people.
