One year of Rana Plaza tragedy

Saturday, 26 April 2014

Those who have not forgotten have observed the 24th April solemnly and remembered the tragic incident of Rana Plaza which took away more than 1100 workers' lives. Now the leaders of the garment industry in Bangladesh are more conscious of the safety and welfare of the workers and we are sure their awareness will help the poor workers get a better and safer work condition.
The Rana plaza incident had drawn so much attention of the world. Now Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are attaching a lot more importance to compliance issues and building international standard factories. The global clothing giants should come forward and help improve the working condition of Bangladeshi labour. Only blaming the factory owners will not help.  Making a safe working environment is everyone's responsibilities. If everyone from the factory owners to foreign buyers comes forward, we can make sure that such tragedies are not repeated. It is good to know that many corrective measures have already been taken while many more are under way. If we can make a better working environment for the readymade garment workers only then will we be able to pay our due homage to the unfortunate workers who lost their lives in the Rana Plaza incident.
