Online gambling after casino episode

Friday, 28 August 2020

Operations of a number of casinos, detected last year, were a big surprise to society here. Once those casinos were sealed, online-based gambling has taken its place in Dhaka and some other places. One particular game styled 'Shillong Teer' has become popular among the aspiring gamblers, say media reports based on investigations by intelligence personnel. Such games were played in tea garden areas and a few cases were reportedly detected in Dhaka city recently.
This indicates that some people look for opportunities for gambling, harbouring dream of earning money through short-cut means. Because of such tendency, quite a number of people fall into trap of fake online lottery, award-giving, or cashback offers. The social media have created scope for making people more aware but some of them are instead allured by criminal minds. Proper regulations, surveillance on fishy activities and conscious behaviour of people can make online platforms relatively safer.
