FE Report | Sunday, 31 August 2008

Chorka.com limited, a local online supermarket, started its commercial operation Saturday in the city aiming to offer better service to the customers.

Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Muhammad Abdul Mazid inaugurated the online shopping system in a city hotel.

President of the country's apex trade body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Annisul Huq was also present at the launching ceremony.

Chorka.com Ltd. launched their online shopping portal (www.chorka.com) with 24 reputed Bangladeshi brands of various products including apparel, food, furniture, books, electronics and lifestyle accessories.

Online shopping system is yet to be popularised in Bangladesh due to lack of suitable payment methods, absence of quality web-portal and limited access of people to the internet.

NBR chairman Mr. Mazid said the online shopping would ease the hassle of the customers in buying products from the busy markets and shops.

Appreciating the initiative, Annisul Huq said, policy support from the government is very important to help this kind of enterprises flourish.

The customer can buy the products from the Chorka.com portal through payment by local as well as international credit cards and cash payment on products delivery, said MR Hossain, a director of the company.

Mr. Sazal Hazra, marketing director of Chorka said: "Chorka aims to facilitate customers to buy Bangladeshi brand items collected from local remote places as well as abroad and we are also targeting cosumers who even doesn't have any credit cards".
