Only a black sheep can berate AL: Tofail

Outraged by BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s scornful remarks against the ruling Awami League, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Tuesday said it is only possible for a black sheep to call Awami League a party of black sheep, according to a news agency.
“It’s only possible for a black sheep to term Awami League a black sheep. I shouldn’t make any comment on him (Tarique). But his father became President and mother prime minister as Bangabandhu was there in the country,” he said.
Tofail came up with the counter attack while talking to journalists at his Commerce Ministry office after a meeting with visiting D-8 secretary general Dr Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi.
At a seminar in London Sunday, BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman said, “Sheikh Hasina at a recent programme branded Khandaker Mushtaque Ahmed as a black sheep…those who had prepared the grounds for Sheikh Mujib's killing, later told the media that Sheikh Mujib was an autocrat. And those who had administered and attended the oath-taking ceremony of Khandaker Mushtaque are now roaming around Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
The BNP leader further said, “So, can’t we say Awami League is a party of black sheep? Can’t we say Sheikh Hasina is a leader of black sheep?”
At the meeting with Mousavi, Tofail said the government is sincerely working to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income nation before 2021.
