Only a lizard!

On Saturday night, the security alarm at Sonali Bank's branch in Kishoreganj's Ratkhola rang out loud and shrill. The bell rang out at 10:30 pm. The branch, which had lost Tk 164 million in a daring heist on January 26, had cause for alarm. Policemen, led by Kishoreganj Model Police Station OC Abdul Malek, ringed in the branch from all sides and pedestrians alerted by the alarm stopped to watch. Media persons rushed to the scene as the news spread and several private TV channels put up news scrolls. Many anticipated a repeat of Jan 26, when miscreants tunneled their way into the branch’s vault and made off with Tk 164 million. Much of the money was however recovered by the law enforcers when they caught up with the miscreants. Around 11.30pm on Saturday, the vault’s custodians Fazlul Haque and Tariqul Islam rushed to the branch, fearing the worst. Both the officials entered the vault in the presence of policemen and tried to figure out why the alarm had gone off. By Saturday midnight they were certain this was no burglary attempt. A lizard in front of the security system sat easy, having set off the alarm. Vault custodian Haque confirmed the lizard had set off the alarm, according to bdnews24.com.
